Delve Networks (www.delvenetworks.com) recently introduced the world's first semantic video platform. The intention is to give consumers a more engaging experience.  By combining speech recognition and semantic processing the platform is the first to enable users to navigate within a hosted video file to find the exact content they want. For example, if a viewer was watching a stock market recap online but only cared about what happened to Yahoo! that day, he or she could type in "yahoo" within the player and the sections that pertained to the search would light up along the content's timebar, showing the user where to skip ahead to.

Try out Delve's technology for yourself at www.kcchiefs.com.

What if you could use satellites to see the future?

A Chicago-based business enables millions of dollars in gains, with extremely accurate crop estimates long before the USDA gets to their number. Last year, Lanworth had the final crop productions in corn, soy, and wheat, months before the USDA was able to calculate their final estimates. They analyze images for local geographies, and are also expanding to emerging global markets, such as the palm oil of Indonesia and Malaysia. They are still a little-known company that has just started to gain attention because of their accurate predictions last October.

This month, as investors anxiously await the first release of the USDA crop production report, Lanworth already has their number. Based on daily analysis of satellite images, digital soil maps, and weather patterns, their report takes into account the full picture of data to provide an extremely accurate estimate on the final production numbers.

It is a situation no one wants to be in, but every day, ambulances transport hundreds of fragile lives to our nation’s emergency rooms.  Advancements in medical devices inside ambulances and emergency vehicles have helped save lives, but the life saving technology of tomorrow is being deployed today by In Motion Technology

In Motion Technology has deployed its wireless communication device, the onBoard Mobile Gateway, in thousands of emergency response vehicles nationwide.  The onBoard™ Mobile Gateway is installed in emergency vehicles to create a “vehicle area network” that provides connectivity for all on-board data communications.  That means while you are riding in the ambulance, the doctors at the hospital can monitor your vitals and prepare for the treatment you will require ahead of your arrival.  It is like having a virtual doctor along for the ride when you need it the most.

I'm writing about Better Place, one of the first venture-backed companies to tackle this energy crisis head-on. Former SAP exec and Better Place founder Shai Agassi aims to reduce oil dependency through the creation of a transportation infrastructure that supports electric vehicles. The idea behind it is to charge for the eletric grid usage and make the cars so cheap that no one will ever think of buying a gasoline car.

You can read more about Better Place and Agassi in a recent NY Times op-ed by Thomas Friedman here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/27/opinion/27friedman.html?_r=1&scp=3&sq=shai%20agassi&st=cse&oref=slogin. Also, Better Place has just launched its first campaign targeted to the public, bascially it's social networking for the oil dependancy issue, www.betterplace.com/10words. Check it out, play around and post your own mini-festo.

Francisco, I'll be happy to connect you with a spokesperson if needed. Even if you don't vote, go check out the 10 words site. Thanks all

A short while back Spansion announced flash memory for servers. 8 times the memory per server and 1/8th the power consumption was the talk of the town.

Taking the flash memory they use in cell phones and putting it into servers is an incredibly radical idea.

Their innovation appears to be grounded in some pretty solid arguments, but I would like to hear more about how such a large company comes up with this radical idea and takes a plunge.

It's like they're a startup all over again!

Tired of spending a small fortune every time you stop at the pump? It’s time to evaluate next-generation videoconferencing gear. Today’s products, such as LifeSize Express, offer crystal clear HD resolution images, they work over standard Internet (no need for dedicated lines), and they can be had for less $5K per endpoint.

The technology, also referred to as "telepresence," is a great way for SMBs with remote satellite offices to communicate regularly face-to-face without having to get in a car or plane. And, of course, by traveling less, a company reduces its carbon footprint.

And the industry is taking off. Wainhouse Research just did a report that suggests in the next few years, videoconferencing will be a multi-billion dollar a year industry. Industry leaders Polycom, Tandberg and LifeSize are all reporting increased sales due in large part to companies investing in the technology to reduce employee travel requirements. In fact, LifeSize just reported that they’re experie

20 pages later in Slashdot comments on the news of Google's new Knol launch and everyone's buzzing about the ad-revenue potential, since you can put Google-ads on your Knol.

A math question for you, if you copy/paste a thousand Wikis into Knol and put ad-services on each of them, how long until you're a millionaire.

I think the potential is much greater - forget the ad-revenues - what about getting clients on Knol.

Say you post a knol on how to build giant stone walls that compete with The Great Wall of China. Maybe some people will go read your instructions and go build this giant wall, but many will contact the author directly and pay the expert to build their wall!

Since Knol's are authored, authors can establish themselves as experts by posting a knol and readers can contact them directly to hire their services. It's a marketplace!

Why I was in a rush to post the first knol on our industry ;-)

Fueled by the escalating cost for a tank of gas and the convenience of making discounted purchases from home, a growing number of consumers are flocking to the Internet for online shopping instead of driving to brick and mortar stores. Yet online shopping can have drawbacks, namely the shipping fees that many retailers charge.

Savvy online shoppers recognize that the cost of shipping can determine whether a purchase is worthwhile, thus the value of buying items from merchants who offer free shipping. Locating Internet retailers that provide these deals was challenging, until the debut of FreeShipping.org.

Launched last December, FreeShipping.org is a one-stop destinations for consumers to find online retailers that offer free shipping deals. The site, which includes more than 800 name-brand stores, allows visitors to search by brand or category.

Online shoppers and retailers alike have found FreeShipping.org beneficial. Traffic on the site and sales generated for the brands on the site
