In the United States, international export of high tech goods accounted for $214 billion in revenue in 2007, while imports totaled $333 billion, according to the AeA (formerly known as the American Electronics Association). This tradeflow, coupled with the steady increase in cross border development, design and manufacturing of goods, is a strong indicator of the demand for software that assists companies to translate product documents into multiple languages. In fact, according to Across Systems, multiational companies typically translate written materials into somewhere between 10 and 30 languages per document. But how do companies maintain productivity of knowledge workers? And in America, do companies value the language assets they have for how important those are to global marketing and localization?

I thought this might be an interesting concept for a best practices story because knowledge worker productivity is an important component of innovation and translation of documents and marketing materials is increasingly important in a global economy.  I’d like to recommend an interview with Daniel Nackovski, president of Across Systems, Inc., a company that develops software that increases productivity of translators and knowledge workers.
